NOME (c. 1975)

Hurricanes, blizzards, and a backed-up sink
here it goes again -
toilet's running over
onto the cardtable -
what will the neighbors think?

Last time I saw Paris
was at the fall of Rome
which reminds me once again
of calling Nome my Home

Nome is Home,
and now I roam
under a moon in June.

I hear again that awful smell -
Zappa, Beefheart - they're to blame -
It's them should go to Hell.

Running down an awful road,
been here twice before -
bumps and twists and funny signs
I want to write no more
but that can't stop me,
not right now,
‘cause once again it's too late -

I see that Paisley Cow.

It haunts my dreams,
my waking hours,
it follows me to work.
I know it's false -
it can't exist -

yet says that I'm a quirk.
