The Wait
'Tis forbidden!
she sternly said,
the thoughts abiding in your head
Put aside your lofty dreams,
for love's not often what it seems,
and disappointment lurks and waits -
our longing love it turns to hate
and ends the shining of illusion.
The time will come, the waiting end -
my heart, my spirit, living, mend
and see the truth of her dire warning
overpowered by love's bright morning -
a gentle, patient dawn
When shining, brilliant, sun arise,
when doubt at last departs her eyes.
