Polyphonic

The fog is gone,
the breeze is sleeping
my boots upon the boards
the only sound

Gentle waves now
softly keeping
time for Peepers
singing for the Spring

I move still deeper
hear the creatures
all around me
singing, singing

Polyphonic,
fugues and jazz
the waves still
keeping time

one....
two....
one....
two....

I try to see them
in my mind
the notes above, below me,
behind me -
to the right and left

They’re not the same -
some trill, some peep
some rasp and chirp
and sometimes squeak

I cannot hold the matrix
I’m lost in some dimension
of sound
I’ve never seen before

The waves keep time
the waves keep time
they try
they really try
But the peepers
will have
none of it
