First Winter – reducks

(for the moment, I'm not sure where the "First Winter" poem might be unless that was the "early snow" one but that's dated 2011 and I thought that my first winter was 2010 but that could be 2009/10 or 2010/11 which might explain my confusion. Let the historians figure it out)

First winter, now the twelfth,
so much the same as then -
Still the wonder
Still the beauty
every day
anew

Thinking back so long ago -
How deep? How long? How cold?
Have I sufficient soup?
The first snow, not so bad,
the heat and lights still on

It’s almost dark,
the moon is light
was that a
Snowshoe Hare?

Well no, but there’s a fox
and other critters there
and what was that?
Along the way to Annabell’s...
A Palm Tree lit on one dark street?
It really was, I swear

First winter, now the Twelfth,
or have I lost count again?
So much has changed, I know, I know
And yet each day begins
with sun and sea and sky
and hope
of yet
another
winter.
