Lights of St. Lawrence
(inspired by George Wirth's "Lights of Brigantine."
Just about dusk
I’m cruising down a two lane
stretch of blacktop,
A windmill up ahead
the sun lights it briefly
against a graying sky -
the iPod’s on shuffle
as it always is
Just to my right
the Gulf of St. Lawrence
placid now, and still
and George Wirth
starts talking
about the Lights of Brigantine
The radio waves are bouncin’ tonight
or maybe it’s something psychic
a coastal thing perhaps
Uh-oh, this car has a moon roof
but it ain’t no Renault
This car has cruise control
I don’t need no broomstick
and I think I can fit through
that hole
But there ain’t no bridges
and no fisherman
just a story
and a song
a connection
